Sphecomyia pattonii is a wasp-mimic fly in the family Syrphidae, related to Criorhina (see Insects > Flies). They visit wild flowers and cultivated flowers in the spring on the Olympic Peninsula. To a human eye, at least, they resemble yellowjacket wasps.
