Yellow Velvet Long-horned Beetles, Lepturobosca chrysocoma (chrysocoma means gold-haired). are common on the Olympic Peninsula. They range from Northern Washington State down into Mexico. I have seen them from around 2,000 feet elevation up to the mile-high Hurricane Ridge area and on Mt. Rainier between June and September. Larvae feed on decaying conifers and hardwoods.
