A member of the Firefly family, Lampyridae, this common northwest species does not emit light as adults or as larvae.

According to Insects of the Pacific Northwest, p 71, “There are a number of species in this genus, and one needs to use the identification key in Fender (1970) to identify them,” but they label their photo Ellychnia hatchi. Bugguide is keeping many photos prospectively identified as this species at the genus level.
