Juvenile Western Toads show the same field characteristics as adults except for size: cream dorsal stripe (barely visible or absent in newly metamorphosed individuals), prominent paratoid gland. Juveniles of all ages have bright yellow spots on their feet.

Recently metamorphosed Western Toadlets (slides 1-4) are about 10 to 16mm in length. After metmorphosis, the toadlets leave the water and disperse, sometimes in the thousands or millions. https://www.cumberlandforest.com/western-toadlets-on-the-move/

The individuals shown here were photographed about a week after a mass migration was first noticed in our neighborhood. They measure about 13mm in length.

Slides 5-9 show older juvenile Western Toads.
