Clear-winged Grasshoppers, Camnula pellucida, sometimes swarm to mate. We took the photos shown here along a south-facing, exposed stretch of the upper Wolf Creek Trail, in the Hurricane Ridge area of Olympic National Park. We observed hundreds of this species, some mating.

Slide 8 shows two Clear-winged Grasshoppers that appear to be investigating three male Crackling Forest Grasshoppers, Trimerotropis verruculata, attempting to mate with a female.
