Entire-leaved Gumweed (Grindelia integrifolia) remains in bloom near beaches in Clallam County, WA into mid September. Among the many species that feed on the mature flowers are these beautiful bees in the family Halictidae. I photographed these males on plants growing at the top of a cliff just south of Dungeness Spit. These ground-nesting bees may dig into in the sandy cliff face nearby.
