On one of our first walks of 2008, we found these Lipstick Cladonia with fruiting bodies on a stump alongside the Olympic Discovery Trail in Sequim, WA. The stump sat on a north-facing slope. (6) Though there are many stumps along that trail, we didn’t see any other specimens of this species.
I brought a small specimen home and photographed it with a dissecting microscope. (5)
