Katydid Steiroxys sp. ovipositing

On a trip to the Elwha trail, which heads west along a ridge from Hurricane Hill in Olympic National Park, I saw several Steiroxys females ovipositing on the trail.

In 4 and 5, the female begins to withdraw her ovipositor. You can se the complete sequence in the QuickTime movie (6).
