Pine Whites were flooding the parkway between Port Angeles and Heart ‘o’ the Hills in late August 2006. Driving home, we saw a dozen at a time out the windshield. They’re also common in our yard, which is where I took the photos (about 2,000 feet elevation, south of Port Angeles, WA).
Pine Whites settle with the wings folded, making a photograph of the dorsal side difficult.
If you see one with its wings spreadespecially if it’s holding suspiciously stilllook for a crab spider (6).
