Checkered beetle Enoclerus eximius

This member of the Checkered beetle family (Cleridae) shows up every spring on logs at Port Williams beach on Sequim Bay, Washington. Adults and larvae of many species in this family are predators.

This species shows the classic “checkered” pattern, often with grayish fuzz on the abdomen tip and the thorax.
